Yes! Toyota officially confirms that the Toyota Land Cruiser is coming back to the United States. What will be? They did not say, but we have many educated guesses based on the all-new Lexus GX 550 that we recently saw in person!

We think that the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser will return to the U.S. as a vehicle based on the new GX 550 platform. Toyota introduced its new TNGA-F body-on-frame chassis with the 2022 Toyota Tundra which uses a boxed steel frame and a rear multi-link coil-sprung solid axle suspension. This chassis can be made larger or smaller, and we now also have several other vehicles on the same platform. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia, the new Lexus LX, and the next-gen 2024 Toyota Tacoma all use a version of this platform. In other world markets, the Land Cruiser 300-series and even the upcoming Toyota Hilux already have or will use a version of this platform.

We think the next U.S.-spec Toyota Land Cruiser will not carry the “Prado” designation that is used in some other world markets. We think it will be simply called the Land Cruiser. We expect it to have the same 3.4L twin-turbo V6 that is currently in the Toyota Tundra, the Sequoia Hybrid, the LX 600, and the new GX 550. A Land Cruiser Hybrid option is also a possibility. This means that 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque are possible.

It will likely have the same “perfect wheelbase” length as other Toyota past and present off-road SUVs. It’s the 2,850 mm or 112.2-inch wheelbase that is also underneath the new GX 550, the LX 600, and the Land Cruiser 300-Series. Toyota calls this wheelbase size perfect for off-road capability and stability, while also allowing for three rows of seats inside.

The all-new Land Cruiser will likely make its debut within the next couple of months. We expect it to go on sale in the middle of 2024 (or about a year from now). We do not have official pricing information, but it is our guess that the all-new Land Cruiser may have a starting price of around $50,000+. The current 2023 Toyota Sequoia Hybrid starts at around $59,800.
