This specially prepared Nissan Ariya will cover over 16,000 miles, in almost every type of environment imaginable
While the Nissan Ariya has been delayed a bit, and some of the enthusiasm has waned, the fact that Nissan is pulling this stunt is compelling. All-electric vehicles have it rough in primitive conditions. TFL Truck recently made it up to Pruedo Bay, Alaska in an all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning. The event was called Northern Lightning, and it was a hell of a hard series to pull off.
“Our mission is to show that electric vehicles can tackle the harshest of environments – from the bitter cold of the poles to the hot and humid jungles of South America, and illustrate that they are exhilarating to drive whilst meeting the daily demands of drivers around the world. It’s fantastic to see such an important and innovative global brand partner with our expedition.”
Chris Ramsey, founder of Pole to Pole

Using E-4ORCE which is Nissan’s all-wheel drive system, upgraded wheels, tires, and suspension components – along with modifications to the body, the Nissan Ariya is mostly stock. Not only that, but an unmolested Aryia will run as a support vehicle for much of the journey. Temperatures during the adventure will range from approximately -22 to over 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
No stranger to running Nissan EVs, Chris Ramsey and his wife, Julie, became the first team to complete the Mongo Rally in an all-electric vehicle. In 2017, they travelled more than 9,941 miles over 56 days in his own Nissan Leaf. Now, Nissan is behind him, and there will be more fanfair.
“We’re proud to announce our partnership with Chris Ramsey and the POLE-TO-POLE expedition team. The all-new, all-electric Ariya crossover SUV enables you to go further, easier and in comfort. And with e-4ORCE control technology providing enhanced stability and traction on a variety of surfaces, we know it will be the perfect partner for Chris and his team on their challenging all-electric journey.”
Nissan Executive Vice President Asako Hoshino, global head of marketing and sales
This will be a fun event to watch from the sidelines. Chris will be departing in March of 2023. His journey runs from the Arctic through North, Central and South America, before crossing to Antarctica.
