Video: Whoa! The New 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Is Crazier Than I Thought

Andre kicks the tires with GMC's latest Canyon AT4X model at Overland Expo Mountain West

The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X packs a mountain of tech and knowhow into a fairly small truck, which costs a mountain of money to buy.

Andre had an opportunity to get up and personal with the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X, and if you think the “X” is part of a sticker package, you go another thing coming. Simply put, the whole “AT4X” part of the Canyon’s running gear and innards is serious off-road magic. Think of it the same way you would the new Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 – because it’s very similar.

What is the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X?

There is an all-new GMC Canyon that is hitting the showrooms next year, and it has been improved in nearly every way. The powertrain choices are now boiled down to one – a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. While some diesel fans may be miffed at the loss of the Duramax, the four-banger is expected to make 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. That is more torque than many V8s.

The wheelbase is longer, and the track is a bit wider (66.3″) too. All of this caters to a buildup of serious off-road goodies. The AT4X has front and rear lockers, which are electrically actuated by the driver.

Another cool (if a bit overkill) tidbit is the available front and rear underbody cameras. Along with the rest of the cameras that cover the vehicle, the two underbody cameras show upcoming obstacles up-close and personal. That’s up to 10 camera views folks. This could be a boon for those who have to deal with sharp rocks and difficult obstacles.

Depending on the trim of the Canyon, maximum towing is rated at 7,700 LBS. That’s impressive too.

I added a few facts about the AT4X’s off-road numbers below.
