Is the new-generation 2022 Lexus LX 600 a good enough Toyota Land Cruiser replacement in the U.S.? Let’s take a look at the specs to figure it out.

The new LX is truly an all-new vehicle. It rides on an updated TNGA-F body-on-frame chassis that it shares with the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser (300-series) that is available overseas. It is the same flexible chassis architecture that also underpins the new 2022 Tundra.

The new LX has a new exterior design (that is similar to the one it replaces). It has an all-new interior and technology. The ground clearance, approach, departure, and breakover angles under the new 2022 LX are about the same as they were on the previous generation. The 112-inch wheelbase is also the same. Toyota’s engineering team says they kept the wheelbase the same because it’s ideal for ride comfort and capability. The new Land Cruiser has the same wheelbase, and it has been this way for decades.

The new LX 600 has a sophisticated 4WD system with low-range gearing and a clever height-adjustable suspension. It has the latest Multi-Terrain-System, crawl control, and drive mode configuration. However, it does not have selectable front or rear lockers. It has a smart traction control system, and the new LX F Sport comes with a TORSEN limited-slip rear differential.

Under the hood, there is no more V8. It’s a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that produces 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The new LX lost about 441-pounds during this redesign. The lower curb weight and great power and torque should make it a quicker accelerating, more efficient, and better off-road vehicle.

While the spec sheet and the list of features are impressive, many owners may never take their new LX 600 off-road. If this LX has a specialized off-road trim level with a better approach/departure angles and more ground clearance than before – then it may be a spiritual Land Cruiser successor. As it is, we will have to wait until we drive one on and off the pavement to know for sure.
