This special Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition will go on sale in August.

If you’re looking for a new Defender that stands out from the growing crowd lapping up Land Rover’s latest SUV, then this may be the answer. At $91,350 (including destination), it’s also substantially less than the classic Defender Works V8 Trophy — which pitched itself to 25 lucky buyers at $300,000 a pop — not that it was available in the U.S. to begin with. All 220 models in the production run are going exclusively to the U.S. market.

This one follows a similar theme, down to a black and yellow wrap and “Land Rover Trophy” decals. You also get black accents throughout by way of Land Rover’s exterior pack, a tow hitch receiver, a ClearSight RearView camera and the Air Suspension Pack. Off-road tires, an expedition roof rack, front skid plate, mud flaps, integrated air compressor and rubber floor mats round off what comes in the Defender Trophy Edition package.

Underneath, the Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition starts out as a Defender 110 P400 X-Dynamic SE. That means you get a 395 horsepower, 3.0-liter inline-six making 406 lb-ft of torque. Strangely, despite a 518 horsepower V8 coming to the 2022 Defender, Land Rover decided not to fit it here. Nor can you get this limited-run model as a two-door Defender 90. It’s four-door only — sorry short-wheelbase fans.

Interior features largely mirror the X-Dynamic SE, apart from adding the heated steering wheel option. Land Rover also ditches the trim’s standard 10.0-inch infotainment system for the larger 11.4-inch head unit.

Want a change to compete off-road?

Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition buyers will have the chance to compete in the one-day Land Rover U.S. Trophy Competition. Only 90 two-person teams (in six waves of 15 teams each) will be selected from the 220-large pool on a first-come, first-served basis. The competition will kick off October 11 on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Win that competition, and you’ll move on to compete in another event at Eastnor Castle in the UK in early 2022.

The Trophy Edition will be available this August, and if you are interested and have the means to buy one, you’ll have until September 24 to register for the U.S. Trophy competition.
