Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport (the “baby” Bronco) a sales success? Let’s look at the numbers, and how it compares to some of its competitors. Indeed, over the first 6 months of 2021, the Bronco Sport sold more vehicles in the United States than Ford Rangers.
Ford sold 60,514 Bronco Sports in the 1st-half of 2021. The Ford Ranger is very popular these days. Ford sold 58,371 Rangers over the same time period. Yes, it appears that the Bronco Sport sales success is accelerating nicely.
Ford says that the Bronco Sport “continues to source more customers from outside of the Ford brand. Bronco Sport’s No. 1 source of sales is coming from Jeep.” How is Jeep doing with their sub-compact and compact crossovers? Here are some numbers for the same time period.
- Jeep Renegade: 31,294 sold
- Jeep Compass: 34,154 sold
- Jeep Cherokee: 67,158 sold
The Renegade and Cherokee continue to see sales gains when compared to the same period in 2020. The current Jeep Compass sales are shrinking when compared to 2020.
The Bronco Sport sales numbers are approaching the Jeep Cherokee numbers. We will continue to watch this space and see how this competition develops over the next 3-6 months. Hopefully, the chip shortages and other shortages will not affect these little off-roaders too much.
Fors reports that the company started shipping the new 2021 Ford Bronco to dealers in June 2021. The company reports that 801 new Broncos have been sold so far. The Jeep Wrangler is enjoying some of the best sales results of all time right now. Will the big Bronco get close to some of the same sales numbers as the Wrangler (approaching 20,000 Wranglers sold each month)? We will have to wait and see.
