Do you think the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport looks like the first generation Ford Escape?
It wasn’t Ford’s intention to make the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport look like the first generation Ford Escape, but some of you feel differently. TFL Studios recently posted a few videos featuring the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport. This was our first time getting access to the little crossover, and we were pretty impressed with the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport – but some of you had other issues. For some reason, many feel it looks like, or, “exactly like” the first generation Ford Escape.
The irony is that the Ford Bronco Sport is based on the modern Ford Escape, which shares very little with the original from 20-years back (emblems maybe?). Rather than discount the comments, or read into the possibility that some of these comments came from Jeep/Toyota fanboys, I rummaged through the internet and found a few photos.
Take a look at the photos below:

Yep! That rear door and pillar design of the 2001 Ford Escape sure looks a lot like the same design as the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport. Man, they’re identical! Not. Sure, the two-box design looks similar, but that’s common throughout the auto industry. You will find a similar silhouette on a variety of other crossovers and SUVs.
I remember about six-months back when many (including Roman Mica) swore the Bronco Sport looked like a new Land Rover Defender. Oh well, take a look at the photo below.

Those be twins I say!
Once again, they share some similarities based on their overall shape, but they are very different side-by-side. The popular two box design is popular because it gives you excellent cargo/passenger space, (potentially) good sightlines and flat surfaces work well off-road.
Don’t believe me? Look at the silhouette of the Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Armada, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon and Chevrolet Tahoe – just to name a few. The shape works.
My point is: saying something reminds you of a vehicle, verses saying it looks exactly like one can be totally wrong. Not only that, I think it takes away from the hard work of the designers. Honestly, I think the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is a cool little crossover. I’m not keen on the naming strategy, but I am onboard with the design and its mission statement.
Here’s a video where Andre gives one some love…
