Adding the FX4 package to the Ford Ranger brings with it the essential off-road equipment, so we took the truck into our thickest mud to see how it fares.
Equipped with a skid plate, locking rear differential, Hankook Dynapro All-Terrain tires and Trail Control, the FX4 package can be had on all trims of Ranger and preps it for off-road duty.
We decided to use Ford’s Trail Control system to see how it would work in the sticky stuff, and we weren’t disappointed. Simply set Trail Control for your desired speed, from two up to 30 km/h, and leave the truck to sort out the gas and the brakes. Best of all, Trail Control can be overridden at any time by simply using the pedals once again.
With 8.9-inches of ground clearance and an improved approach angle thanks to a revised bumper, the Ranger FX4 stands just tall enough to keep it out of most trouble.
The truck also has another key off-road feature: a tall seating position. Though it is a small truck, the driver’s seat in the truck offers a commanding view of the trails around you.
