Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) has announced its acquisition of Triton Industries, manufacturer of Manitou pontoon boats.
This announcement comes just over a month after BRP announced that it was buying Alumacraft and forming a new Marine Group. Manitou pontoon boats are the latest addition to the Marine Group, a move that makes sense when you consider that BRP already makes Evinrude outboard motors that will be used on these pontoons.

“The announcement of the acquisition of Manitou is the logical next step in the roll-out of our global marine strategy,” said José Boisjoli, BRP President and CEO. “We are thrilled to welcome a company with such potential and its entire team to the BRP family. Together, we will strive to transform the industry and become a leading marine company.”
BRP says that pontoon boats are the fastst growing segment in the boat industry, and now it has a strong foothold in that market. Owning multiple pontoon boat brands will also help BRP find efficiencies between the businesses.
The transaction remains subject to certain customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of BRP’s fiscal year 2019.
Polaris also recently got into the boat business, buying Boat Holdings, builder of Bennington, Godfrey, Hurricane and Rinker boats.
